Specific Category of Standard 8:
INTASC.8.B K: The teacher knows how to select, construct, and use assessment strategies and instruments appropriate to the learning outcomes being evaluated and to other diagnostic purposes.
INTASC.8.D D: The teacher values ongoing assessment as essential to the instructional process and recognizes that many different assessment strategies, accurately and systematically used, are necessary for monitoring and promoting student learning.

The teacher acknowledges and implements assessments, both formal and informal, and uses them to make sure the children are learning appropriately.
Reflect:
The artifacts that I chose for this standard represent it because both of them are ways of assessing children and helping the development of the learner. The artifact that I chose for 8.B was a Guided Reading Lesson that I had to complete for a class in which I was required to read a book and complete a guided reading for a group of students. This artifact reflects this specific category because it throughout the entire lesson I was having to use different assessments to identify if the children were having problems and with what they were having problems with. I also implemented different instruments in order to asses the children's reading by using magnet letters and a whiteboard to make sure they know how to pronounce and spell certain words. By using this artifact, it shows that I understand using informal assessments to assess my students. The artifact that I chose for 8.D is some assessments that I did for a class in which, while observing in a class, I assessed a child on things like high frequency words and letter identification. This artifact reflects this specific category because it represents a type of formal assessment that shows what a student knows and where he or she is at amongst the other children. Both of these artifacts are good representations of this standard because they are both good examples of my understanding of assessments and how to use them wisely and appropriately.
Project:
I think that these artifacts have made me become a better teacher because I have a better understanding of the use and need for assessments in the classroom and plan on making sure that I use assessments to make sure that the children in my class are doing well. I also feel that these artifacts will make me become a better teacher because I gained some good knowledge on how to perfrom assessments on students and I feel more comfortable with my comprehension on why they are so very important.
